Crew who will be working on the Disney Wonder while the ship is sailing in Australia will need to ensure they have obtained any required visas before traveling.
All crew working on the ship will need to have a Maritime Crew visa (subclass 988). In addition, crew who are flying to Australia to join the ship will require one of the following based on nationality:
Maritime Crew visa (subclass 988)
With this visa, you can...
- arrive and depart Australia by sea while onboard as a crew member
- stay in Australia for the duration of your contract during the ship's time in Australia
- sign off the ship if your contract ends while the ship is in Australia
- work in Australia only to the extent of the normal operational duties of a crew member
Maritime Crew visas typically last for three years, so if you received one for last year's Australia season, your visa may still be valid. You can see if you have a valid visa using the Maritime Crew visa online status enquiry page on the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs website.
If you have not yet obtained a Maritime Crew visa, the Crew Office will provide you with additional details regarding the application process, including a questionnaire that you will fill out. The Immigration Compliance team will complete the application for all Crew Members employed by Disney Cruise Line who will require this visa type; if you have any questions about your visa status or what is required to complete an application, please speak to the Crew Office or email DCL.Immigration.Compliance@disney.com.
The Maritime Crew visa is valid only for arriving by sea; if you are flying to Australia, you will need to obtain another visa in addition to the Maritime Crew visa before you depart. Please see below for more information about the other visa types that may be required. When applying for a second visa, you may receive notification that you already hold an Australia visa and the issuance of the new visa will replace the one that is already approved. This is not a problem; please continue with the application. A crew member can hold another visa in addition to the Maritime Crew visa; however, only one visa will appear as being in effect at any given time. You will use the second visa to arrive by air for embarkation and use the Maritime Crew visa when arriving by sea throughout the Disney Wonder's time in Australia.
